Clangers are strange, long-nosed, pink, woolly creatures that live inside a small cratered planet, which lies far, far away in space.

Under the dustbin-lidded craters that cover the planet’s surface is the cave system where the these strange yet cuddly extraterrestrials live. They share their world with the bizarre Soup Dragon, who lives in a soup well and provides them with their staple diet of green soup and blue string pudding, and the tiny orange Froglets, magical creatures that live inside a travelling top-hat. Other beings encountered by the Clangers are the Iron Chicken who lives in a metal nest in the sky; the large, odd, blue-skinned Skymoos; and the water-providing Cloud.

The Clangers were created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, whose production company, Smallfilms, was responsible for some of the most well-known and well-loved children’s television ever made, including such classics as ‘Ivor the Engine’, ‘Noggin the Nog’, ‘Pogles’ / ‘Pogles Wood’ and ‘Bagpuss’.

The original series of ‘The Clangers’ ran for twenty-six episodes and one special, and is still as popular today as it ever was – so much so that forty-six years later it was brought back for a new run of fifty-two brand-new episodes on the BBC’s CBeebies channel! Now with Oliver’s son Daniel Postgate at the helm, this new £5m series was co-produced with US pre-school TV channel Sprout, and narrated by Michael Palin (and the legendary William Shatner for the American transmission!). These new stories are just as enchanting as the originals, bringing the Clangers into the 21st Century for a whole new audience to enjoy.
